Tunto will take part in the architect@work design fair in Düsseldorf, from 7 to 8 December, 2011. The fair is an international event for architects and interior designers, with focus on product innovations and state-of-the-art interior architect solutions.
The architect@work fair will be a good chance to get to know Tunto and the people behind our company. At the event we’ll be revealing new products, directed especially to meet the aesthetic and functional needs of interior architects: the all-new LED28 and LED40/60 lamps lamps. These new lamps are part of Tunto’s direction to extend our range and provide more innovative products and solutions for architects and interior architects alike, to complement our awarded range of design items, lamps and furniture.

We’re extremely proud to inform you about a new major international acknowledgement for Tunto, and more specifically, for Tunto founder and designer Mikko Kärkkäinen: Mikko has been recognized as one of Europe’s leading 40 designers in 2011 who are under 40 years old.
“Mikko Kärkkäinen is one of Finland’s prominent up-and-coming young industrial designers. He is the principal of Tunto Design, which features products handmade at his workshop in Järvenpää, Finland. His focus is on lamps, light, and developing radical new concepts that combine the latest technology with wooden materials”, says the award jury about Mikko.
“Some of Europe’s most exceptional design talent was selected this year,” states Christian K. Narkiewicz-Laine, Museum President of The Chicago Athenaeum. “These young practitioners, currently designing and building some of the most provocative work today, promise to be riding the crest of the future in Europe.”
The winning 2011 Europe 40 Under 40 will form an exhibition during the XIII BA11- International Biennial of Architecture in Buenos Aires, opening October 8 and continuing through October 30, 2011. Plans are being made to take the exhibition to Europe in 2012.

In Finland, our products were awarded within the scope of trade show Lahti:Biennale. The award-winning products were presented on Tallinn Design Week. Our new Estonian reseller is Hektor Light. The lamps will be presented in their Tallinn showroom.

We’re extremely glad to announce that Tunto has won yet another one highly coveted international RED DOT design award 2011, this time with our new LED4 lamp in the Product Design category. Believe or not, this is the third consecutive red dot for Tunto since 2009, the previous winners having been the LED1 (2009) and LED2 (2010) lamps.
LED4, designed by Tunto founder Mikko Kärkkäinen, provides excellent lighting possibilities to all kinds of work spaces and beyond. Carrying the torch of the timeless Tunto design philosophy, LED4 makes use of the same subtle touch-sensitive technology as the LED1 and LED2, giving a true feel of the material and finishing of the lamp.
The international red dot design award is the largest and most renowned design competition in the world. The applied criteria are, among others, degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, durability, ecological compatibility and quality.
We can’t seem to help it – the awards just keep on pouring in. And we’re all of course extremely proud of this. Thank you!
